Assessment Appointments
Some women who come for breast screening need further tests before we can give them a screening result. This happens to about 1 in every 10 women.
Most women who come to an assessment clinic do not have breast cancer.
Notes on the clinics:
- Please do not use talc (talcum powder) or spray deodorant on the day of your appointment.
- Your appointment may take between 2 and 4 hours.
- The further tests may include a breast examination, more imaging and an ultrasound scan.
- You may also have a biopsy, which is when a small sample is taken from your breast with a needle to be checked under a microscope.
- A breast care nurse will be available during your appointment to support you.
If you have received an appointment to attend one of our assessment clinics and would like to speak to a breast care nurse prior to your appointment, please call 01483 307916.
